Buffalo Mens Mountain Shirt Pile & Pertex Shell £194.00
![]() Buffalo Systems Mountain Shirt - Men's The Buffalo Mountain Shirt is an award winning design classic and we are flattered that it is probably one of the most copied outdoor garments. Tested for over 30 years in the most hostile conditions. Used by Mountain Rescue teams and outdoor professionals. A single layer garment which is ideal for a multitude of outdoor uses including: winter hill walking, trekking, winter climbing, and general outdoor activities. Any Buffalo garment can be used for Winter sports. A Mountain Shirt worn next to the skin will give optimum performance, with the option of adding an extra layer if conditions take a turn for the worse or you need a break. We understand that the idea of wearing a single garment over bare skin, rather than multiple layers, can be difficult to accept for some people. A base layer will trap perspiration and the resulting dampness will reduce your body temperature and make you feel cold. In extreme conditions this could lead to hypothermia. Our loyal customer base suggests that once converted, few people go back to their previous base/mid/outer/waterproof combination and are relieved to be free of the “waterproof tied round waist or stuffed in rucksack” dilemma. Buffalo loves the rain, (though no Buffalo product is waterproof!)! Wear your Buffalo Shirt correctly, i.e. next to your skin and the correct size, and you will remain comfortable as long as you maintain gentle activity. Your body will heat the pile and any water that permeates the outer will be deflected by the pile layer. The more heat you produce, the more effective this process. In particularly heavy rain or during low activity we would suggest adding a Waterproof Jacket to keep the weather out, but as soon as activity recommences, or the rain reduces, you will be able to remove the outer layer and continue. The side zips are designed for venting the garment if you start to feel too warm. Opening the zips from the armpits downwards (rather than from the bottom up) will allow a flow of air round the body without leaving you exposed to the elements. Sizing is important as the shirt should be close fitting without being restrictive. This garment works most efficiently when worn next to the skin. Fit Tip: If you are between to sizes, we recommed the larger size. If you measure a 41” chest. We usually suggest going for a 42” as a 40” could be slightly tight across the shoulders. AquaTherm Pile Lining - It allows for a layer of insulating air around the body making it very warm. The pile does not absorb water, so body moisture is expelled. Used along with Pertex® fabrics will keep you warm under the most severe conditions. Size Chart:
Product Care: How to clean and re-proof your Buffalo garment. Regular washing helps maintain the performance of Buffalo products and keep your friends. It restores the loft of the pile fabric and separates the fibres, revitalising the performance. In the eventuality of the pile becoming matted even after washing, the fibres can easily be restored by brushing to separate the fibres. As you prepare for your next season of outdoor and mountain adventures, you may need to ask yourself if your gear is ready to perform its best. Especially, your technical outerwear. Buffalo Systems Jackets and Shirts are the benchmark for staying dry during outdoor activities like hiking, bushcraft, exploring, and mountaineering, but they require intentional care in order to maintain a high level of performance. The outer face fabric will lose water-repellency over time and with wear & tear, but this can be rejuvenated by undertaking a couple of simple steps. Caring for your gear, even in a small way can help prevent longer-lasting damage to gear. Damaged or ineffective gear is not used to its maximum potential – or used, at all! In our world, we should all be striving to be responsible consumers, focusing on maximizing the useful lifespan of our outdoor technical garments, instead of replacing them prematurely and unnecessarily. A little care goes a long way. Below, we have provided a simple outline for cleaning and re-proofing your Buffalo Systems outerwear. It is as simple as your normal washing routine, but with a couple of small and important tweaks. When is it time to clean my Buffalo garment? You will know that it is time to clean your Buffalo when you notice that the jacket or shirt fabric is starting to absorb rain droplets, rather than repel them. Nearly all outdoor brands and manufacturers use a thin DWR coating on the outside face fabric of their technical outwear; this coating is what causes water droplets to bead up and roll off. There are various types of DWRs, but most often, when your Buffalo “stops working” it is simply because its DWR layer has faded away, or been contaminated by dirt, grime, or other agents (food residue, other liquids, campfire smoke, snot, etc.) Washing Your Buffalo garment. We would advise you to run your washing machine without detergent and softeners for one cycle before washing your Buffalo garments to ensure the machine is completely clean, as well as removing any residue left in the washing machine tray.
