Looking after your Meindl leather boots and shoes:

Meindl's leather boots and shoes are handcrafted in Germany and have been so by the same family for over 300 years. They are designed to be your perfect adventure partners and last the test of time.

We know that many of the boots we make spend their days on craggy fell tops, mountain paths, trudging through rivers, puddles and mud. These are the places we love to see them. If you look after your boots after an outdoor adventure, they will look after you.

Quality boots deserve care and attention. Here are simple steps to caring for your Meindl boots and shoes:

  • Remove the insoles and boot laces
  • Wipe excess dirt or debris out of each boot
  • Wash with warm water - Warm water will not damage the lining.
  • Leave to dry naturally with the tongues wide open - Let the boots sit in a room-temperature, dry area for 24 hours.
    • Tip: For quicker drying, stuff newspaper or absorbent paper into each boot, packing it loosely but completely into the foot of the boot. The paper will absorb moisture from the inside; and changing the paper frequently will expedite the process.
  • If the insides are wet, use a kitchen roll or old tea towel to soak up the moisture.
  • Treat with Meindl's Sportwax:
    • Tip: Before applying Meindl Sport Wax, remove boot laces so you can treat the deepest, darkest nooks and crannies.
    • Tip: Applying a little to the hooks and eyelets also protects them against corrosion.
    • Apply it with a sponge or cloth to all exterior leather areas and don’t forget the tongues of the boots.
    • Rub the wax in well. There’s no need to heat it, as this could reduce boot breathability.
    • Waxing changes the appearance of the leather, making it smoother and darker.

DO NOT heat Meindl's Sportwax before applying. Doing so can cause it to penetrate too deep and impair the leather's breathability and your wearing comfort.

DO NOT apply oils or grease on any of our boots. There are two reasons: First, oil and grease products can cause boots to lose strength and stability. Second, oil or grease will migrate throughout the leather which can cause the rand and outsoles to delaminate from the boot.

DO NOT use a direct heat source such as a radiator, heater, fireplace, heated boot dryer, etc. Wet leather is very sensitive to heat which can cause cracking and damage affecting performance and longevity.

Care Advice:

  • How often should I use care product on my boots? We recommend that you clean any mud and dirt off your boots and shoes every time you have worn them. Your boots should be waxed regularly, every few weeks, although more regular treatment is needed when your boots are in daily use or when it is very rainy.
  • What to do with your boots before their first wear. All Meindl boots are handcrafted and conditioned before they leave the factory in Germany. But we do recommend that you either condition or wax your boots before their first outing, to ensure they are fully protected from the elements.
  • We’re able to resole and repair some boots. Have your perfect walking companions been well-loved and cared for but are now at the end of their sole life? If you would like your boots resoled please return them via your local retailer.
  • You should always store leather boots where temperatures are stable, cool and dry. Do not store them in the attic, garage or any hot, damp or unventilated area. Improper storage or lack of use can actually cause damage to the rand and soles resulting in delamination from the boot. Believe it or not the worst thing for your boots is long term storage. Meindl boots are meant to be worn and not tucked away in a closet, by wearing these boots even in the off season (whether it's a short hike, walk around the block or town) it's crucial to keep your boots moving in the open air.
