Meindl's Boots Terrain Category System:
Meindl boots are graded in a category system from A – D. These categories are based on the terrain that the boot will be suitable for. It is important that you choose the correct boot for the type of walking or activity that you’ll be doing. If you are not sure – read on, we are here to help!
Here’s everything you need to know to make a decision about the best boot for you.
Note: most of Meindl's shoes and boots are graded, but if you can’t see a specific grading next to a product, it doesn’t have one, and that means it’s for keeping your feet comfortable on every day adventures.
Meindl’s Top Tips:
Alfons Meindl developed the terrain categories to classify his family’s boots in 1975. Over the years, the system has been refined and it’s now widely used by many footwear manufacturers. If you are looking to purchase a pair of boots we would encourage you to read the terrain categories above.

After over 10 years wearing the Kopenhagen daily I had to find the nearest thing to protect my feet which I have had problems with for years. These are the closest but I am having trouble “breaking them in”. Although they bc are comfort fit they are rubbing one toe and I’m getting tenderness under the sock tie seam of my smaller foot. The other foot feels as though there is a hard shelf under the outer instep and they are nubuck so I cannot polish them and they feel very stiff. Quite hard to tighten the laces too which are several inches shorter. So the jury is out but Meindl are such a good product that I’ll stick with it
Only a boot, which really fits, makes you happy.
Please remember that, for technical reasons, there can be slight differences in the size of different types of boots / shoes.
For narrow feet Meindl produces some of their standard models in a narrow last (narrow N).
