My first Gore-Tex Jacket Bought in 1997 was a Sprayway TL Ascent, which I still have. It was and still is a great item. I subsequently bought a Changabang Jacket in 2005, Which I also still have.
The one in 2006 was size L and at that stage of my life, I was 74 Kg’s. The jacket when worn over a base layer and fleece was a perfect fit. Plenty of room to manoeuvre, be it scrambling over rocks or climbing over ditch’s, steep ascents etc.
I decided to replace this with another Changabang Jacket. Obviously the quality and the Gore-Tex is much better and it is a little lighter.
The strange thing is that , this is also a size L and though I am now 81 kgs this is like a maternity dress. It is much longer, well be low my derrière and much wider. I could roll up the cuffs on it😀 I put on a base layer, a montane hoodie and a fleece jacket- it was rather loose on me.
Therefore, it was either mislabelled at the factory- perhaps an XL or XLL, or the Jacket is being manufactured more “ roomier”
If the latter, I’m not sure why?
The Jacket itself is excellent quality and looks well, however, I would have preferred it a little tighter.
Alas, with the current restrictions and very good weather, I have been unable to put it through it’s paces. However, I am pretty sure that it will perform even better than my previous one.
My Son is turning into a big lad, I will turn it over to him next year.
I am giving it a five star rating as despite the size issue, it is still a fantastic piece of kit. It is better than the pervious version that I have and back in the day- I also rated that five.
I hope that I don’t grow into it😀
