I hate waterproof jackets. In my opinion, they’re a necessary evil. I find that with any strenuous day on the hills, breathable, they are not. I’ve owned Paclite (I cook in it), Paramo (really comfortable but it has let me down with too many soakings and yes, I reproof it) and Event (good, but not near as breathable as suggested). I needed a new waterproof and after loads of research bought the Lhotse from Jacksons. Quite simply, I love it. Breathability is on a different level, protection from the elements is first class and the cut is, for me, perfect. I have tested this on numerous long days and nights on the mountains and I couldn’t ask for more. I haven’t noticed the rustle as some have suggested, certainly not on the hills. I normally don’t leave reviews but felt I needed to with this. It’s a big spend but I’m so glad I did. Can’t not mention Jacksons either, great knowledge and service. Thanks guys👍
I bought this jacket to replace my 15+ year old Montane Superfly made from Epic.
Breathability appears similar at this stage and it is obviously waterproof.
The cut is where this jacket excels, I can move both hands above my head and the jacket does not ride up or move at the back.
The only downside is that the face fabric is very noisy so it is a bit like wearing a chip packet but that is only a small downside compared to the excellent cut and breathability.
This jacket should see me through at least another 10 years of messing about in the mountains.
Well made Gore Tex Pro. Made in Ukraine and designed in the UK
Size M gives me enough room for a down mid layer. I’m 5’8” and 165lbs. (173cm/75kg). I bought this because my Diamar jacket was too tight for a down mid layer. And Gore Tex is waterproof and wind proof but not warm. The zippers are a bit stiff. Should last though. I can wear a base layer, merino sweater and a down jacket underneath. So, it’s perfect. The colour is beautiful. I am having trouble finding Mountain Equipment ski pants in GoreTex Pro to match and I don’t want black. I want a Cosmos colour. Bib design. No luck. My Diamar ski pants are wearing out around the cuff from wear against my ski boots. Mountain Equipment is a good brand. Here in Canada everyone seems to wear Arc’teryx’ I think ME is better and unique over here.
So I would recommend this jacket . If I did a Beta on this jacket I would suggest that the collar which zips over your face be made roomier. It’s too tight. Also, the hood doesn’t fit as well as the Diamar jacket over a helmet. Too big.
