How to use Nikwax Suede Brush:

Your footwear could be soaking up water just because they are dirty. First, try cleaning them with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel, and if they are fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed with Nikwax Fabric & Leather Proof, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalised just from cleaning.

Once footwear have been thoroughly used, you will need to add DWR using Nikwax Nubuck & Suede Proof:

  • Hand Wash

For best results always clean footwear first with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel. No need to dry footwear before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions.

  1. Brush off dirt with Nikwax Suede Brush and clean using Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel.
  2. Shake well before use. Press sponge applicator to break seal.
  3. Apply generously to wet footwear; Spray-On (from a distance of 5cm / 2in ) or Sponge-On.*
  4. After 2 minutes, remove surplus with a cloth and allow to dry before use.
  5. Always allow footwear to dry naturally:
  • Leave footwear to dry at room temperature.
  • Paper can be stuffed into the toes to absorb excess moisture, this should be replaced when wet.
  • Keep footwear away from fires and radiators, drying too quickly can crack leather and cause bonded soles to peel.

Nikwax Nubuck & Suede Proof leaves a flexible water repellent treatment on individual fibres of fabric and leather. This allows moisture vapour to pass through, maintaining breathability and keeping your feet dry.

* Light/coloured nubuck or suede may darken after treatment. Test on a hidden area first.

Nikwax Product Ethics:

Nikwax takes great care to minimise the effect of Nikwax waterproofing products on the environment and on you, the consumer.

  • Nikwax waterproofing products are WaterBased, Non-aerosol, Non-flammable, Non-hazardous, and Environmentally Friendly.
  • Zero PFC - Completely free of fluorocarbons (which have been shown to be persistent in the environment and have been associated with serious health issues).
  • Nikwax waterproofing products contain no harmful solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

Nubuck & Suede Care:

Breathable waterproof footwear is most likely to get sweaty and wet inside when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer nubuck or suede absorbs water, the breathability of the footwear will be reduced.

Therefore, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) of your footwear must be maintained to ensure comfort. It will eventually wear off and need to be renewed with Nikwax Nubuck & Suede Proof

Using the right cleaning product is as important as using the right waterproofing product. Conventional detergents leave behind a thin water-absorbent film on materials, which masks their Durable Water Repellency (DWR). Always clean your waterproof footwear with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel. Remember that dirt itself works against DWR, so regular cleaning will enhance performance.
