Nikwax TX.Direct Spray-On - 500ml Spray Bottle

Adds Durable Water Repellency, revives breathability and maintains internal wicking properties.

Anyone who is active outside in damp or wet conditions will benefit from breathable waterproof clothing. Whether you’re a mountaineer, cyclist, dog walker, or you work outside as a farmer or surveyor, you will need good waterproof outerwear to keep us dry. However, a good waterproof fabric must allow moisture vapour to pass through it, or 'breathe'; otherwise our sweat cannot evaporate, causing us to overheat and get wet from condensation. Additionally, if the outer fabric of your garment absorbs water and ‘wets out’ its breathability will be reduced, causing you to feel clammy and wet.

A durable water-repellent (DWR) finish is applied to the outermost surface of waterproof/breathable clothing and equipment during manufacture. It prevents the fabric from absorbing moisture by making water bead up and roll off. This minimizes condensation forming within and maximizes breathability. However, the DWR finish is not permanent and needs to be maintained to optimize performance. Dirt will also attract water and reduce the beading-up of droplets on the fabric's surface.

Nikwax TX.Direct Spray-On is a safe product to use on breathable waterproof items with wicking linings, or those that can’t be machine washed. It can be applied to the outer face fabric of waterproof clothing, providing Durable Water Repellency (DWR) without compromising internal wicking properties, whilst maintaining breathability, keeping you dry and comfortable. Safe for use on Gore-Tex®, Sympatex®, Entrant®, Ultrex®, and TriplePoint® fabrics.

* Never use liquid detergents or fabric softeners. Wash the garment in Nikwax Tech Wash non-detergent soap. Detergents can leave water-attractive residues that will not rinse out.

Features:

  • Ideal for garments with knitted wicking linings or gear that should not be machine washed such as single wall tents & bivy sacks
  • Reduces the water-absorbency of the outer fabric, optimizing breathability
  • Quick and easy application can be used anywhere, anytime on wet or dry fabric
  • Lasts several washings
  • Safe on Gore-Tex®, Sympatex®, Entrant®, Ultrex®, and TriplePoint® fabrics
  • Product of choice of professional Outdoor trainers.
  • Non-aerosol, non-flammable and environment safe.
  • 500ml / 17.6oz bottle is suitable for 5 items.
How to use TX.Direct Spray-on:

Your raingear could be soaking up water just because it is dirty. First, try cleaning them with Nikwax Tech Wash, and if they are fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed with Nikwax Cotton Proof, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalised just from cleaning.

Once the garment has been thoroughly worn, you will need to add DWR using Nikwax TX.Direct:

  • Hand Wash

For best results remove all non-washable parts and always clean item(s) first with Nikwax Tech Wash in a separate wash cycle. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions.

Use gloves (to avoid waterproofing your hands!).

  1. Protect working surface and lay clean wet fastened garment flat.
  2. Hold spray-on bottle 15cm / 6 in away from garment.
  3. Apply evenly to outside of fabric.
  4. Wait for 2 minutes. Remove any surplus product with a damp cloth.
  5. Check carefully to ensure no areas have been missed.
  6. After several minutes check for and remove any surplus product with a damp cloth.

Nikwax TX.Direct treated clothing needs no heat to develop Durable Water Repellency (DWR), so it is not necessary to use a tumble drier for best results. As garments with taped seams get older the tape adhesion weakens, becoming more fragile and susceptible to heat, so it is best to avoid tumble drying.

Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if care label allows.
Do not machine-wash garments if taped seams have become dislodged.*
To maintain waterproofing always wash with Nikwax Tech Wash. Do not use detergents.

*Faulty taped seams sometimes become detached on old or worn garments. They can be re-stuck using a proprietary clear glue after waterproofing and drying.

Nikwax Product Ethics:

Nikwax takes great care to minimise the effect of Nikwax waterproofing products on the environment and on you, the consumer.

  • Nikwax waterproofing products are WaterBased, Non-aerosol, Non-flammable, Non-hazardous, and Environmentally Friendly.
  • Zero PFC - Completely free of fluorocarbons (which have been shown to be persistent in the environment and have been associated with serious health issues).
  • Nikwax waterproofing products contain no harmful solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

Cotton Care:

Breathable waterproof garments are most likely to get sweaty and wet inside when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer fabric absorbs water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability.

Therefore, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) on the outer fabric of your jacket must be maintained to ensure comfort. It will eventually wear off and need to be renewed with Nikwax TX.Direct.
