A durable, high performance and comfortable directional waterproof jacket for hiking, trekking and mountain walking in cold and wet conditions.
The Alta III uses Nikwax® Analogy® Waterproof fabric for superior weather protection and sweat management, with ventilation for good temperature control. Reinforced panels help prevent water ingress when pack carrying.
Fit Tip: The Paramo Alta III jackets are standard fitting. We recommend to size up if you are close to the next size up: In doubt, best to go up to the next larger size than the size chart suggests.
Review: “A jacket built for the wildest weather with impeccable eco-credentials so you’ll stay dry and feel good about doing your bit for the planet. Offering a great set of features along with superb weather protection and high levels of comfort, this is a jacket that excels in cold, wet weather. Its top-drawer green credentials are also major plus points - after all, no true outdoor enthusiast wants to be wearing kit that damages the planet…” The Outdoors Magic Green Gear Guide.
Review: “Páramo’s Alta model has a very devoted following and now I understand why - this really is an excellent jacket. My first test of it was on a long bike trip in the Lake District in some miserably wet and cold weather. This isn’t a cycling jacket by any means but it was the only coat I had with me so, before setting out, my expectations weren’t high. However, barring the fact it was slightly too long and baggy for cycling, the wet weather protection and, most notably, the breathability was so, so impressive. In fact, I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever come across a jacket that’s as protective and as breathable as this. Nikwax - it’s genius stuff! At a time when brands are all shouting about the new eco-friendly waterproof membrane they’ve developed, Páramo and Nikwax, you could say, have had the answer all along. What else? It dries much faster than you’d expect considering the fabric is quite thick and there are loads of nice touches such as zipped vents, a wire-stiffened peak and numerous pockets. Along with all that, it’s got a retro look that seems to be all the rage now.” Will Renwick, Outdoors Magic Editor
Review: “I was very impressed, I think I am hard to impress having paid out a small fortune over the years on ‘all singing and dancing’ Gore Tex or Páramo products but I can say with some expertise and authority that this is the best jacket for certain conditions that I have used to date.” Philip Lee, Mountain Leader & training consultant
Review: I’m not in the habit of sending testimonials but I am just about to replace my original Alta jacket with the current version. I can only date the jacket to pre 2004. It was replaced by yourselves under the lifetime guarantee when the Velcro on the wallet pocket came away. Used regularly In the Northumberland hills the fabric has now worn through in places but the jacket has never leaked and the features are exactly as needed. I can only hope the replacement performs as well. Thanks for a fantastic product. Mike Bonner
Review: “I am a mountaineering instructor working in Wales during the summer and Scotland through the winter. Over the past 12 years I have used various different clothing systems. Of all the systems I have used I have not found anything that beats Páramo. A lot of hard shell systems claim to be breathable and waterproof - this may be true in laboratory tests but in reality when used for a day in typical Scottish winter conditions they fall a long way short of their claims. On the other hand, Páramo systems do what they say” Chris Thorne, Llyn Adventures
Features:
The Alta III is ideal for all walking activities to the highest level.
When walking on tough terrain in cold and wet conditions, you need durable, reliable clothing that will keep you dry and warm. If you are working hard, your jacket also needs quick options to cool you down while on the move.
Functional design, combined with Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric, provides optimum comfort, excellent weather protection, warmth and cooling in one efficient jacket.
The Alta III has excellent ventilation, a fully adjustable hood and practical pocketing.
Temperature regulation is provided by upper arm vents (that can also stay open in the rain without water ingress), a two-way locking front YKK zip with internal storm flap, and sleeves that are designed to be pushed up.
Good visibility and weather protection is assured by the fully adjustable wire peaked hood, which is designed to maintain vison in all conditions and roll into the jacket collar when not in use.
Secure external and internal storage allows for safe stowing of map and navigation tools across six well-placed pockets.
Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric is more than just breathable, it is directional.
This means it is capable of moving liquid water away from your body and not just water vapour.
It is essential to avoid a build-up of water in your clothing system when you are working hard, as too much retained moisture will lead to your body rapidly chilling when you stop and rest.
In conventional clothing systems, approximately 20% of sweat production is dealt with effectively, leaving the remaining 80% trapped inside.
Nikwax Analogy garments are unique, in that they pump out this 80% of liquid water and allow it to drain away; you are left feeling dry and comfortable.

In what kind of weather conditions can I use my Alta III Jacket?
The Alta III Jacket has been tested to resist at least 4 hours of intense rain; so you can use it throughout the year in cold or wet conditions.
Because the fabric system offers significant insulation, this is not the best garment to deal with heavy showers in very hot conditions.
How do I care for my Páramo waterproof?
Regularly wash it with Nikwax Tech Wash® to remove dirt and revive its water repellency. If, after washing, the outer fabric absorbs water (it does not run off in beads) it is time to reproof your garment with Nikwax TX.Direct®.
If your waterproof picks up a contamination which cannot be removed in a normal wash, Páramo can professionally wash and reproof it for you.
What if I damage my Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof clothing?
Simple repairs can often be done with a needle and thread without compromising the performance of your Páramo gear.
If you seriously damage a garment, you can send it back to Páramo and request a quote for having it mended – most damage can be repaired!
Ethics & Environment:
Páramo clothing does not rely on hazardous fluorocarbon (PFC) treatments in its finishing or aftercare processes.
Nikwax Analogy fabric systems are uniquely suited to recycling as they avoid the need for mixed materials, membranes or taped seams. Instead, they use 100% polyester, which unlike many materials, can be broken down and reformed into new, high quality fibres.

Wore it for the first time this weekend on a trek up Ben Nevis ... The weather was bright but cold -4 at the summit ... This jacket was the highlight of my walk as I was not really working due to supporting someone else but the jacket kept me warm throughout the day without being too heavy (only had a light base layer and thin fleece mid layer) I could have gotten away with just a base layer and the jacket.... Enough pockets and quick access to the main breast pockets with velcro on one side of my main pocket which became my quick stash pocket for a snack and gloves.... Absolutely love this jacket and cant praise it enough.... Paramo is now on my all time favourite list...
I bought this for my husband as a Christmas present. The jacket stands up to very wet weather, is breathable and easy to wear. He hasn’t worn it in snow conditions yet but I have no doubt it will perform well. He bought his last jacket (Berghaus) 30 years ago and only just needed a new one. It will be interesting to see if this lasts the test of time - I have a feeling it might.
Ordered on Tuesday night came Friday evening great service from Belfast to Manchester the jacket is my 3rd Alta now and the midnight is a new colour which I love , I own a pair of cascade waterproof pants which I’ve had for about 15 years and still going strong plus various other paramo items .....I can’t fault this jacket at all it’s got everything a good hillwalking jacket should have and you get what you pay for so go get it you won’t look back plus it’s got a lifetime guarantee.👍🏻
Please remember that, for technical reasons, there can be slight differences in the size of different types of clothing.

PÁRAMO SIZING GUIDE
Páramo® garments are specified using metric measurements, therefore the metric measurements in this chart are the most accurate. Imperial equivalents are rounded to the nearest half number.
Páramo® measurements in the chart relate to body rather than garment measurements – thus, for example, a leg length measurement given here is for a person’s leg length, not the actual leg length of the garment to reflect the fact that Páramo® garments are designed specifically for active use.
Páramo® Easy Fit - More generous fit – for example, Velez Adventure smock & Velez Light smock. If you are close to the next size down, best to go down to the smaller size
Páramo® Athletic Fit - Fits closely to body contours – for example, Alta jacket, Velez jacket, Helki jacket, Mirada jacket, Velez Hybrid smock & Enduro models. If you are close to the next size up, best to go up to the larger size
