A durable, high performance and comfortable directional waterproof jacket for hiking, trekking and mountain walking in cold and wet conditions.
The Alta III uses Nikwax® Analogy® Waterproof fabric for superior weather protection and sweat management, with ventilation for good temperature control. Reinforced panels help prevent water ingress when pack carrying.
Features:
The Alta III is ideal for all walking activities to the highest level.
When walking on tough terrain in cold and wet conditions, you need durable, reliable clothing that will keep you dry and warm. If you are working hard, your jacket also needs quick options to cool you down while on the move.
Functional design, combined with Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric, provides optimum comfort, excellent weather protection, warmth and cooling in one efficient jacket.
The Alta III has excellent ventilation, a fully adjustable hood and practical pocketing.
Temperature regulation is provided by upper arm vents (that can also stay open in the rain without water ingress), a two-way locking front YKK zip with internal storm flap, and sleeves that are designed to be pushed up.
Good visibility and weather protection is assured by the fully adjustable wire peaked hood, which is designed to maintain vison in all conditions and roll into the jacket collar when not in use.
Secure external and internal storage allows for safe stowing of map and navigation tools across six well-placed pockets.
Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric is more than just breathable, it is directional.
This means it is capable of moving liquid water away from your body and not just water vapour.
It is essential to avoid a build-up of water in your clothing system when you are working hard, as too much retained moisture will lead to your body rapidly chilling when you stop and rest.
In conventional clothing systems, approximately 20% of sweat production is dealt with effectively, leaving the remaining 80% trapped inside.
Nikwax Analogy garments are unique, in that they pump out this 80% of liquid water and allow it to drain away; you are left feeling dry and comfortable.
Watch this short video to find out more about the benefits and features of the Alta III Jacket:
Technical Features:
The Nikwax Analogy fabric system provides unrivalled waterproof protection and moisture management.
Fantastic ventilation and temperature regulation from long upper arm vents and a two-way locking front zip. Adjustable cuffs easily push up and secure.
Fully adjustable hood guarantees vision in all conditions and can be stowed away when not in use.
Six practical pockets:
Two waist-high handwarming pockets.
Two external chest pockets: one with hook and loop closure and D-ring attachment, and one for OS maps.
Two internal zipped chest pockets - one large and one small - for safe stowing of maps and valuables.
A directional Mesh Pump Liner® reinforces the shoulder and back panels, preventing water ingress in heavy rain and when load carrying, whilst maximizing airflow.
A classic longer length cut gives maximum protection from the elements without compromising freedom of movement.
Ergonomic panel placement provides excellent shoulder / arm articulation and prevents the jacket riding up.
Glove-friendly zips allow for easy, single-handed operation.
Average weight: 805g / 28.5oz
In what kind of weather conditions can I use my Alta III Jacket?
The Alta III Jacket has been tested to resist at least 4 hours of intense rain; so you can use it throughout the year in cold or wet conditions.
Because the fabric system offers significant insulation, this is not the best garment to deal with heavy showers in very hot conditions. In that case we would recommend a Nikwax Windproof, perhaps combined with one of our Parameta T+ baselayers, to optimise breathability and cooling.
How do I care for my Páramo waterproof?
Regularly wash it with Nikwax Tech Wash® to remove dirt and revive its water repellency. If, after washing, the outer fabric absorbs water (it does not run off in beads) it is time to reproof your garment with Nikwax TX.Direct®.
If your waterproof picks up a contamination which cannot be removed in a normal wash, Páramo can professionally wash and reproof it for you.
What if I damage my Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof clothing?
Simple repairs can often be done with a needle and thread without compromising the performance of your Páramo gear.
If you seriously damage a garment, you can send it back to Páramo and request a quote for having it mended – most damage can be repaired!
Ethics & Environment
Páramo clothing does not rely on hazardous fluorocarbon (PFC) treatments in its finishing or aftercare processes.
Nikwax Analogy fabric systems are uniquely suited to recycling as they avoid the need for mixed materials, membranes or taped seams. Instead, they use 100% polyester, which unlike many materials, can be broken down and reformed into new, high quality fibres.
This garment is made in Colombia by the charitable Miquelina Foundation. It is member of the World Fair Trade Organization. Guaranteed Fair Trade.
Fully recyclable through Páramo.

Ordered on Tuesday night came Friday evening great service from Belfast to Manchester the jacket is my 3rd Alta now and the midnight is a new colour which I love , I own a pair of cascade waterproof pants which I’ve had for about 15 years and still going strong plus various other paramo items .....I can’t fault this jacket at all it’s got everything a good hillwalking jacket should have and you get what you pay for so go get it you won’t look back plus it’s got a lifetime guarantee.👍🏻
The Alta 3 jacket was my first Paramo purchase and I'm extremely pleased with it. I was looking for a 4 season jacket that would have good water resistance , windproofness and breathability .Paramo is not a well known brand here in the States, but I did alot of research on their stuff and decided to give it a try. I've used it for numerous short winter walks near where I live and last week got to try it out upstate at 21 degrees and snow on the ground. Wonderful. I had a base layer on with a Patagonis R1 and was very comfortable until lunch. At that point, the hike moved into the sun, so I removed the R1 and continued with just the base layer. Nice and comfortable. The jacket has great length (covers your butt), a ton of pockets, good adjustable hood, nice long sleeves with velcro adjustment and a wonderful soft feel. The arm vents really work. I had them open in the afternoon and my arms never got cold or hot. Just right. I will have to do a follow up review after I use it in really nasty conditions, but am confident that I'll like this even more than I already do. It's versatility is amazing.
Went for the new Alta 3 because of its relative ight weight and small pack size. I walk hot so am glad of paramo's fabric. A nice fit and cut definitely improved and some good features. All in all a really good hill jacket. I would trust it any season and anywhere in the UK.
Please remember that. for technical reasons there can be slight differences in the size of different types of clothing.
Páramo® Measurements are body measurements. not garment measurements.
All Páramo® garments will fit more generously than non-active wear because Páramo® pattern and grade all garments for active use: reaching. bending. stretching.
All Páramo® garments use metric measurements

PÁRAMO SIZING GUIDE
Páramo® garments are specified using metric measurements, therefore the metric measurements in this chart are the most accurate. Imperial equivalents are rounded to the nearest half number.
Páramo® measurements in the chart relate to body rather than garment measurements – thus, for example, a leg length measurement given here is for a person’s leg length, not the actual leg length of the garment to reflect the fact that Páramo® garments are designed specifically for active use.
Páramo® Easy Fit - More generous fit
Páramo® Athletic Fit - Fits closely to body contours – for example, Velez, Quito, Ostro & Enduro models.
