Paramo Velez Adventure Smock - Women's

A durable, high performance and comfortable directional waterproof smock for use during high energy multi-activities in cold and wet conditions.

The Women's Velez Adventure provides all the multi-activity features of the best-selling Velez Smock but comes with a FIXED roll-away hood, as requested by competition and race entrants where this feature is a requirement to guarantee protection in all weather conditions.

Full directional waterproof performance gives weather protection and perspiration removal and is combined with excellent ventilation via Páramo’s unique front twin zip design. A roll-away hood with wired peak plus generous easy access pockets enhance its suitability for a broad spectrum of activities.

The Velez Women's Adventure Smock uses the Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof fabric for superior weather protection and sweat management, combined with two-way twin zips and forward facing arm vents for good temperature control.

The Velez Adventure Smock has been updated with a few enhancements:

  • Is a couple of inches longer in the body,
  • Has arm vents
  • A redesigned hood (the “halo” hood, same as the Enduro jacket and Velez Evo)
  • More pack pressure reinforcement (different fabric in those areas from the previous version)
  • An extra zipped pocket (inside the kangaroo pouch).
  • Fit is similar but with slightly less excess fabric in the torso and upper arms.
  • All options have coloured side panels
  • There are also some component changes in toggles and the cuff tabs.
  • Colours are the same (moss and black for men, midnight for women) but they are also introducing a fire red for both as a bright version.
  • Basically is recognisably a Velez Adventure Smock but with a few tweaks that make it even better!

Fit Tip: The Paramo Velez Adventure smocks have looser fitting. We recommend to size down if you are close to the next size down: In doubt, best to go down to the next smaller size than the size chart suggests.

Review: "Embracing the venting zips (of which the Velez smock has many!) was a game changer, and established the baseline that the Páramo smock can be worn all day, with venting there to respond to temperature regulation." Emma Gerrard - Mountain Leader & DofE Award volunteer

Review: "I purchased my Velez Smock over 20 years ago and it still remains waterproof to this day (frequently rewashed and proofed with Nikwax products) The only fault I have found is that now after 21 years, the velcro tabs on the sleeves need replacing. Excellent value for money purchase and mine is the old one with the detachable hood, which makes it perfect for Walking/Hiking and mountain biking. I am currently using it to keep me warm and dry as a National Standards Bikeability Instructor!" Scott

Review: “I required a jacket to go on an outward bounds course and I wanted a quality product. I decided to buy a Páramo Velez Adventure Smock and the jacket did not disappoint. The smock is as good today as the day I purchased it. The zips, fastenings and detachable hood have never failed, the jacket is washed regularly and re-Nixwaxed, and it maintains its waterproof nature. The smock has been everywhere from the peaks of the Lake District, to the coasts of Northumbria, the Welsh coast line, the wilds of west Cumbria, school trips and even, in 2012, a winter in New York City. Generally, though, it can be found getting most use in the woods and hills of the south lakes. The smock is so versatile, you can wear it to the pub, sledging with the kids, and walking in the hills. It can be rolled up and stuffed in a rucksack, used as a seat pad or even a camping pillow. I don’t go anywhere without it!” J.Shepherd

Review: 'I have owned my Páramo Velez Adventure Smock for over 10 years now and it offers continued excellent water proofing that keeps the rain at bay on my walk in to a camp and great wind resistance when photographing from the camp itself. It is imperative that I don’t get wet beyond my outer layer as I will be living in the minimal clothes that I have with me for over 24 hours. The hood is a perfect design, offering amazing protection from the elements and is also comfy to sleep in. It really is my go to jacket for any wild camping trip as I know it will keep me warm and dry and I can throw it on when needed and not feel like I need to take it off unless it gets really hot.'' Paul Allen

Review: ''This year is my 10th year with my Velez Adventure Smock and I still love it. It is still the most reliable waterproof coat I have owned that keeps me dry in all conditions, all year round. Jackets with membranes that I have bought for work have come and gone in that time, but the Velez has been reliable week in, week out.'' Nick Davis

Review: 'For cooler weather I always carry the Velez Adventure Smock, and in winter it's the jacket I take in preference over my older, but still perfectly good down jacket from Rab. Not because that one has any faults, but because the Velez is a fraction of the bulk, it feels much less cumbersome and more agile. It's just as warm, as well as being waterproof, and it's proven itself by remaining so even when hiking full days in soaking rain. And the cut is just right - low at the back for providing added protection/warmth, slightly shorter at the front. At a little over 700g it's not exactly light, but it's certainly no heavier than carrying an insulating jacket of similar warmth along with a dependable waterproof.'' Rudolf Abraham

Review: ''I have owned many jackets but none of them have had the longevity of my Páramo Velez Smock. Every season I keep telling myself, “this year I will need to replace it.”  I have owned the jacket for 19 years so far! Tremendous value for money. The smock is so versatile, you can wear to the pub, sledging with the kids, walking in the hills, it is as comfortable to wear in the summer as in the depth of winter. It can be rolled up and stuffed in a rucksack, used as a seat pad or even a camping pillow. I do not go anywhere without it! '' Jonathan Shepherd

Review: “I bought my Velez Adventure Smock 2 years ago and it has been my best outdoor kit purchase to date. It's survived heavy wind and rain in the Lake District, Wales and Dartmoor and I couldn't have been happier. Since I changed to Paramo I won't be going back to hardshell coats!” Andrew Harbey, Buckinghamshire

Review: “Wow! After years of wearing Goretex, members of Dartmoor Search and Rescue team assured me Páramo was better. I took the plunge and purchased a Velez Adventure Smock. The first outing was to undertake the Dartmoor Perambulation, 84 km in two days. We had driving rain, wind and snow. This jacket is fantastic, I cannot recommend it enough. On the few times it did stop raining the side vent zips could be opened if you felt you were getting warm. Thank you Páramo!” Dave Bradfield, Devon

Review: “I am a mountaineering instructor working in Wales during the summer and Scotland through the winter. Over the past 12 years I have used various different clothing systems. Of all the systems I have used I have not found anything that beats Páramo. A lot of hard shell systems claim to be breathable and waterproof - this may be true in laboratory tests but in reality when used for a day in typical Scottish winter conditions they fall a long way short of their claims. On the other hand, Páramo systems do what they say” Chris Thorne, Llyn Adventures

Features:

  • The Velez Adventure Smock is designed to be used for a wide range of outdoor activities, including backpacking, walking, cycling, climbing and snow sports.
    • To enjoy the above in cold, wet weather, you need robust and reliable clothing that offers protection from the elements, removes perspiration, and manages your temperature so you don’t overheat.
    • Combining clever fabric and functional features, including our renowned twin zip design that allows a backpack to be worn without compromising ventilation, this tough and efficient smock provides optimum comfort, warmth and cooling.

  • The Velez Adventure Smock has excellent ventilation, a fully adjustable hood and practical pocketing.
    • Temperature regulation when working hard is provided by two-way twin front zips with inner, poppered baffles for maximum venting even on the move, and upper arm vents.
    • Field of vision and extra weather protection is assured by the fully adjustable, stowable ‘halo’ hood with wired peak.
    • Secure pocketing allows for storage of OS maps, compass and valuables, and handwarming when needed.

  • Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric is more than just breathable, it is directional.
    • This means it is capable of moving liquid water away from your body and not just water vapour.
    • It is essential to avoid a build-up of water in your clothing system when you are working hard, as too much retained moisture will lead to your body rapidly chilling when you stop and rest.
    • In conventional clothing systems, approximately 20% of sweat production is dealt with effectively, leaving the remaining 80% trapped inside.
    • Nikwax Analogy garments are unique, in that they pump out this 80% of liquid water and allow it to drain away; you are left feeling dry and comfortable.

In what kind of weather conditions can I use my Velez Adventure Smock?

  • The Velez Adventure Smock has been tested to resist at least 4 hours of intense rain; so you can use it throughout the year in cold or wet conditions.
  • Because the fabric system offers significant insulation, this is not the best garment to deal with heavy showers in very hot conditions. In that case we would recommend a Nikwax Windproof, perhaps combined with one of our Parameta T+ baselayers, to optimise breathability and cooling.

How do I care for my Páramo waterproof?

  • Regularly wash it with Nikwax Tech Wash® to remove dirt and revive its water repellency. If, after washing, the outer fabric absorbs water (it does not run off in beads) it is time to reproof your garment with Nikwax TX.Direct®.
  • If your waterproof picks up a contamination which cannot be removed in a normal wash, Páramo can professionally wash and reproof it for you.

What if I damage my Nikwax Analogy® Waterproof clothing?

  • Simple repairs can often be done with a needle and thread without compromising the performance of your Páramo gear.
  • If you seriously damage a garment, you can send it back to Páramo and request a quote for having it mended – most damage can be repaired!

Ethics & Environment

  • Páramo clothing does not rely on hazardous fluorocarbon (PFC) treatments in its finishing or aftercare processes.
  • Nikwax Analogy fabric systems are uniquely suited to recycling as they avoid the need for mixed materials, membranes or taped seams. Instead, they use 100% polyester, which unlike many materials, can be broken down and reformed into new, high quality fibres.
  • This garment is made in Colombia by the charitable Miquelina Foundation. It is member of the World Fair Trade Organization. Guaranteed Fair Trade.
  • Fully recyclable through Páramo.
