The Expedition 4 is an advanced level compass primarily used by rescue workers and outdoor enthusiasts who crave top level equipment. It contains everything you need in a compass and has added functionality for GPS.

This full-size base plate compass is made for experienced navigators, more demanding trips or when you want to have the possibility to navigate with more advanced and precise techniques.

Expedition 4 is made by robust material and withstands the toughest of conditions. Furthermore it features a large magnifying lens for detailed map reading and a declination scale inside the capsule and includes a detachable lanyard.

Thanks to its luminous markings it is possible to use for night navigation as well.

Silva Quality: The Silva quality ensures durability and excellent readability; the baseplate compass is made from clear and scratch resistant acrylic.

Silva 1-2-3 System:

  1. Place your compass on the map and use the baseline to make a straight line between your current position and your destination. Make sure Direction of Travel arrow points towards your destination.
  2. Turn the compass housing until the red part of the north/south arrow is parallel with the map meridians and points north on the map.
  3. Lift your compass from the map and hold it horizontally in your hand. Turn yourself and the compass until the red end of the needle is inside the red north/ south arrow. Now the direction of travel arrow will point towards your destination. Take a landmark and start moving. Enjoy!
  4. NOTE: If using a mirror-sighting compass: angle the mirror/lid approximately 45 degrees towards yourself and hold with straight arm out in front of you. Now, while looking in the mirror to see that the needle aligns with the red/black N/S arrow, sight above the mirror (using the sight) towards an object in the field in line with the direction of travel
