Review: True to size. Excellent design, fit, value, and quality. It is m’y third hat and not the last one. This hat is extremely comfortable stylish and well made. Keeps you cool and keeps the sweat out of your eyes. Excellent hat for summer. I love it!

Size & Fit Guide:
The Tilley hat is designed to be worn low on your head and slightly loose, and should be held on by gravity. If you already know your regular (non-Tilley) hat size, we recommend that you select one size larger when you order your Tilley.
For instance, if you’re normally a 7 1/4, order a 7 3/8. However, to be sure, we recommend you use our measurement and sizing instructions below:
Measure the circumference of your head approximately 1cm / 0.4in above your ears.
To ensure ease and comfort add 1-2cm / 0.4-0.8in to your head measurement depending on how snug you like to wear your hats.
Use that measurement to select your size from the measurement chart below

Here's Why Tilley Hats Are Acknowledged 'The Best In The World'
Appearance & Comfort:
To protect you from the sun and rain, Tilleys fit lower than other hats. This also tends to give one a rather dashing appearance!
For your comfort, they`re held on by gravity, not painful pressure on your forehead. On a hot muggy day, you`ll especially appreciate this!
Even though they fit gently, Tilleys won`t fly off because when there`s a breeze, you use one or both parts of the tuckaway Wind Cord (see Ties On below).
Guaranteed For Life:
Tilleys are replaced free if they ever wear out, shrink or fall apart. They`re so carefully handcrafted by us in Canada, and made of such strong materials, that many outlive their owners. Final words in the Owner`s Manual? `Pass it on!`
Insured Against Loss:
We understand the anguish of losing this reliable companion, or of having your dog terminally gnaw it. Should that happen, we`ll replace your late, lamented Tilley at half the catalogue price.
With your Hat, you`ll be provided with `The Straight-Shooter`s Statement of Loss of a Tilley Hat` insurance policy. The insurance is for two years, all perils, 50% deductible, and is not issued by Lloyds.
Floats:
A layer of closed-cell foam in the crown, and sometimes in the brim, provides the Tilley`s positive buoyancy. This is a boon to boaters and fishermen/women/people. Good grief!
People have told us that this foam layer has helped save their lives. Double your money back if it doesn`t save yours. Apply personally....
Ties On:
The Tilley comes with a tuckaway, adjustable, fore `n` aft Wind Cord. When it`s calm, the Wind Cord stays hidden in the crown. When there`s a breeze, place the part with the sliding knots behind your head. When it`s windy or you`re sailing, use the chin part too.
See Comfort above, and the Owner`s Manual, which accompanies each Hat, for amplification.
Repels Rain:
Not perfectly but usually quite adequately. Happily, the brims of the cotton-duck Tilleys actually become stiffer when they get wet, not floppier, helping to protect your neck, face and glasses.
The Lighterweight Nylamtium® Tilleys are excellent at repelling rain.
Won`t Shrink:
They, in 1980: `Alex, you can`t make a cotton hat that won`t shrink!`
Me: `But what if we boiled the material first? Mercilessly preshrunk it?`
They: `Well, I guess that would work`
It did and does.
Hydrofil® Anti-sweat Band:
Soft and comfortable, it picks up sweat from your forehead and wicks it away to your temple area where it evaporates.
Certified Sun Protection:
The fabric and style of all Tilley Hats have been certified to block 98 percent of harmful UVA/UVB radiation and deliver an ultraviolet factor (UPF) of 50+, the maximum rating given.
You still need SPF 15 sunscreen and sunglasses with UV filters! Children especially need the UV filters in their sunglasses as non-filtering glasses will increase the size of their pupils, allowing even more of the damaging UV rays to enter. This often causes cataracts and retinal problems later in life and has happened in my (Alex Tilley`s) own family.
Yes, Dorothy, there can be truth in advertising. For instance, although our Hats block 98% of UV rays, some rays COULD enter through the ventilation grommets
Umpteen Sizes:
Most hat makers make 4 or 5 sizes we make 13, and even individual Hats beyond that size range when necessary.
As a matter of principle, no one shall be deprived of the pleasure and privileges of Tilley Hat ownership simply because of an uncommon head size.
The Tilley Hat fits more comfortably than other hats. It’s designed to be worn low on your head and slightly loose. It should be held on by gravity, not by painful pressure on your forehead! For the proper fit, you should be able to easily insert two fingers, flat, between the middle of your forehead and the front of the Hat. The Hat should be loose enough that you can rotate it to the left and right, and lift it up and down, without friction on your forehead. When it’s windy, use the cord!
Like footwear, your Tilley Hat must be sized properly. To find your hat size, use a tape measure and draw it right around your head, just above the eyebrows. If you give us the measurement (inches or centimetres) on the Sizing Guide on the website, we’ll give you the right size. Or refer to our Hat Sizing Chart for an easy reference to your Tilley Hat size.
4-page Owner`s Manual:
You`ll find it a good read. It`s also available in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Please specify if it should be other than in English.
Brag Tags:
There are 8 of these in the Secret Pocket. You`ll have fun with them they can even get you into trouble, if you wish.
Sunglasses` Security:
You can attach your sunglasses to the side of your Tilley: a Velcro® tab inside the Hat holds the folded temples of your glasses in place after you`ve tucked the temples through the solid brass ventilation grommets.
Secret Pocket:
Inside the crown is a good-sized pocket sealed with Velcro®. In it, carry your Brag Tags, I.D., toilet paper(!), license, hotel key, £10 note (in your case a 20), plus a 20p for an emergency phone call.
How To Measure Your Head:
As mentioned above, a Tilley Hat fits lower and more comfortably than other hats. The lower it sits, the larger at that point is one`s head circumference. To find your Tilley size, simply measure around your head, just above the eyebrows. Tell us this measurement in inches or centimetres. We`ll take it from there. Or refer to our Hat Sizing Chart for the easy reference to your Tilley Hat size.
If you already know your regular hat size, please ask for one size larger when you order your Tilley. For instance, if you`re sure you`re a 7 1/4, order a 7 3/8.
Washing Instructions:
Wash it frequently or non-removable sweat stains will mar it and possibly rot it. Machine or hand wash in cool water. Do not use bleach as it remains inside the Hat, slowly rotting it. Smooth and reshape the Hat by hand and set it out to air dry.
Our Guarantee:
If you ever succeed in wearing out your Tilley Hat (and some have), send us the remains and we will replace it free. If you want to keep your faithful, old, worn-out friend, tell us and we`ll return it to you. We understand.
Remember: Upon purchase, your Hat is covered by a two-year, all-peril, 50% deductible, Hat Insurance Policy to take the pain out of loss or irreparable damage.
Made Of Titanium & Kryptonite
Hardly! The lighterweight Tilley (LT) Hats are handcrafted of a strong, laminated, waterproof nylon, Tilley Nylamtium®. Other Hats, are created from 10-ounce (per square yard) cotton duck, a tough, soft, closely woven, mercilessly preshrunk, water-and mildew-repellent, canvas-like material. Our hemp hats are engineered from 11-oz. hemp, nature’s performance fabric®. Hemp is the world’s strongest natural fibre and does not require herbicides or pesticides in crop production. It is truly an environmentally friendly crop.
We hand-sew each Hat using very strong thread; all seams are lock-stitched so they won't unravel. The brass is from Britain and is the best there is. All Hats are made with such care and dedication that one is as good as another. Your Tilley will be equal to that presented to a president or princess. ("Hi, Duke! How long have you had your Tilley?" could be an effective opener.)

I was unsure about laying out a lot of money for a had but having worn it in high temperatures I can confirm that it was worth every penny! The hat offers great protection from harm full rays yet still allows any breeze to pass through the vent on top. It's featherlight yet durable. Highly recommended.
This is my second Tilly hat, the first one purchased 6 years ago and mostly used for golf. My new one khaki, will be used for walks and holidays. They are wonderful durable hats, very comfortable and effective for keeping the sun off the face. The hat was delivered very quickly after placing the order. Thank you Jackson Sports.
These hats are the finest money can buy. I had one for many years, and it still looked new after many trips around the world, frequently to southern/eastern Africa. Unfortunately it went "walkies" in Sydney airport recently, hence my new purchase.
