I really really wanted to love this smock given its legendary status among military and special forces etc. I am 6' tall 43 chest and around 175 pounds and ordered the Xlarge. The problem was that it would not go on or come off easily over my very large head. Even with the side zips up it was not easy. So it goes. Not really a review of the jacket but my head. the jacket is quality made and for the brief time ai had it on next to my skin it was surprisingly comfy and not itchy as I feared. The hood was fine, not doing a separate review on it.
This item was not bought for me, but the new owner has said that he is very pleased with it. It does everything he had hoped for and more. This Buffalo was bought as a very much older relative is now showing its age - it is still warm, but this younger one has none of the problems associated with age, whether of human, animal or outdoor wear. It's also a more practical colour, bearing in mind that the (human) owner is also showing a few signs of wear and tear, so visibility is a good addition to other practical aspects of the garment. I recently retired from 40 years as a forensic photographer. The last 15 years I was based in the East Coast of the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. I bought the S6 to keep me warm on those frequent occasions I would be called out to process crash & crime scenes especially during Winter months especially up in the mountains towards Mt Cook. This garment kept its promise and me warm & dry for many years of call-outs with no more than a micro-fibre 'T' shirt underneath. All those stood around me in issued gear would be shivering... but not the Police photographer - toasty & dry. Retired now the S6 serves me on my Winter walks along the coast and beautiful Caroline Bay. I'm adding the hood and can't wait for that to arrive. Most highly recommended clothing for actives in challenging & changing conditions. It could save your life....!
